Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting some friends in downtown Orlando on Church Street. I have lived in Central Florida for almost 11 years…and I have not been downtown since. The last time I was there was when it Church Street Station…30 years ago!
Why? Because I figured since Church Street Station was gone, what else was there? And I won’t lie, I had heard horror stories and thought downtown Orlando wasn’t safe. I have a tendency to assume things and that was farthest from the truth and I was pleasantly surprised.
The Church Street District is actually a booming business in the evening and I want to make it a weekly spot for my husband and I, sort of a weekly date night. And besides that…it’s absolutely beautiful! With the gas lanterns glowing, lights shining, sidewalk cafe’s, art galleries and more, there is something for everyone.
We had recently gone to the Amway Center for an event, and had I known it was less than a block away, we could have enjoyed a full night of fun.
They close the street off nightly, and the sidewalk cafe’s are extended to the street. With the beautiful evenings, it’s a very nice way to spend the night.
We ate at Hamburger Mary’s and the food was phenomenal. Even though I only had a hamburger and tots, it was the best hamburger I had ever had. The decor is 50’s looking and I look forward to taking my husband there. They also have a complete menu of teasers, salads, burgers and dinners.
With something to do almost every night of the week, from Bingo on Tuesday to Trivia on Wednesday to a Cabaret Show on Saturday, you could visit every day and it will never be the same. Don’t forget about the Sunday Broadway Brunch.
Some of the other restaurants located in the Church Street District are:
- Dessert Lady Cafe
- Draft Global
And so many more!
I hope to bring you more about the many restaurants in weeks to come.
