Doggone Orlando

News, views and reviews for Orlando pet parents from the mom of a menagerie of cats, dogs, birds, horses, fish, and guinea pigs who stays just one step ahead of the "Animal Hoarders" TV crew

Orlando has gone to the dogs (and cats and guinea pigs etc. etc.)

Welcome to Doggone Orlando, a new blog for pet parents in Orlando and throughout Central Florida. It’s brought to you jointly by myself and my menagerie of pets. Although dogs are featured in the title, Doggone Orlando will actually cover just about any critter you might share your home with. Personally, I have the following mini zoo, which causes me to constantly be on the alert for the Animal Planet “Animal Hoarders” team:

c83

Bolt, a two year old Chiweenie, adopted from a county animal shelter.

c91

Stitch, a spoiled old kitty and another shelter adoption.

c85

Farquaad, rescued from underneath a dumpster as a kitten.

cam5

SheiKra, rescued from I-4 after someone tossed him out of a moving car

c88

Mewsette, another county shelter adoptee

c84

Quinn (bottom), adopted from Petco (yes, some stores do adoptions as well as sales) and Amy, adopted from Craigslist

c93

Truman the Quaker parrot

c86

Klaus the betta

c87

Cartman the betta

c92

And last but not least, my Appaloosa horse, Figment

I’ve been writing about animals since the 1980s, and my work has appeared in such magazines as Horse Illustrated, Bird Talk, and Animal Wellness. I’m also the Pet Supplies & Product Reviews Expert for About.com.

What can you expect in Doggone Orlando? I’ll cover a wide variety of pet-related topics, from dog parks to boarding facilities to flea control to useful products for Florida pets to animal adoptions to just about anything else you can think of that might be of interest to pet owners. I always welcome comments and suggestions from my readers, so please use the Comments section to touch base with me.

Stay tuned for future posts that will help you and your dog and other pets enjoy life in and around Orlando.
